We propose to obtain Chandra ACIS-S snapshot exposures of the most optically luminous quasars found in the SDSS that lack X-ray detections. These powerhouses are presumably examples of extreme accretion conditions, and to our surprise only about 30% of the most luminous SDSS quasars have information about their X-ray properties beyond uninteresting upper limits (primarily provided by the ROSAT All Sky Survey). We will study the extreme physical conditions in these quasars via analyses of their X-ray-to-optical flux ratios and their basic X-ray spectral properties. Observations of these quasars will significantly help in breaking luminosity-redshift degeneracies that arise in studies of quasar properties.
