A number of IRAS galaxies appears rather luminous at X-rays, which could be due to the presence of an active nucleus that otherwise is obscured. X-ray observations offer suitable opportunities for detailed spatial and spectral analyses of these galaxies, which will allow to assess whether they possess active nuclei. We are currently working on ROSAT, ASCA and possibly SAX data of several such galaxies.
