The instrumental complement of the SAX X-ray observatory, thanks to the unprecedented combination of wide band and spectral resolution allows a new look into the X-ray emission from stellar coronal sources. The LECS and MECS detectors allow the emission in the 0.1-10.0keV band to be studied with a spectral resolution higher - at the low-energy end - than that of CCD-based detectors, allowing for more accurate determination of coronal abundances than possible before, while the extended high-energy response of the PDS instrument allows the study of the high-energy emission in hot stellar flares, as well as for the study of possible non-thermal tails in their spectra. Some recent results from the SAX observatory in the field of coronal sources are presented, briefly discussing the general features of the coronal observations performed to date, and discussing in some detail the recent SAX observation of a strong flare on the active binary Algol.
