Whether source terms exist or not, the Regge-Wheeler equation is shown
to be the master equation for perturbations of the Schwarzschild
geometry. In this generalized Regge-Wheeler equation, it is found that
divergent integrals do not appear, although they do in the
Bardeen-Press-Teukolsky equation.
