This is a proposal to add a vital datum to an already considerable dataset describing the jet/beam - cloud interaction in the radio galaxy PKS 2152-69. The interception of a blazar (photon) beam by a small, gas-rich companion galaxy has produced a wealth of physical phenomena which we have studied from radio to X-ray wavelengths. The gas in the companion has become highly ionized (up to Fe9+) and the dust is scattering the photon beam. The full understanding of this phenomenon allows us to derive important properties of the photon beams and, possibly, particle jets which are a part of the radio-loud AGN phenomenon. We intend to use the WFPC2 with two ultraviolet filters to image the cloud in strong emission line free regions around 3000A and 1600A to determine the ultraviolet continuum energy distribution which is already known at long UV wavelengths from IUE. In the longer of the filters, we will measure the linear polarization in order to determine its wavelength dependence in conjunction with our existing B-band measurement. The diagnosis of the scattering mechanism is important for the understanding of the 'alignment effect' in high redshift radio galaxies.
