The Abell 1942 cluster of galaxies is within the area observed by the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). In this paper we adopt the photometric data from its Data Release 6. The A1942 spectra used in this paper have been obtained with the 3.60m telescope at ESO-La Silla (Chile) in two runs during a total of ten half-nights from 5 to 10 June 2005 and 30 April to 3 May 2006 (with 4 cloudy nights).
