A brief overview of the observed properties of the Second Solar Spectrum is presented, with emphasis on some of the most recent advances. These include clarification of the physical nature and properties of the continuum polarization, diagnostics of chromospheric magnetic fields with the Ca II K line, progress in elucidating the enigmatic D1 polarization, and molecular scattering in magnetic fields.
