Meteoroids entering the Earth's atmosphere are heated by collisons with the atmospheric gases, and at ~120 km reach temperatures at which evaporation can begin. For meteoroids <1000 μm in diameter heating is uniform and evaporation proceeds according to thermodynamic equilibrium. A summary is presented of the uncertainties that hinder accurate modeling efforts, namely meteoroid composition, velocities, and size distribution.
