The NEAR Shoemaker spacecraft performed low altitude passes over the surface of asteroid 433 Eros on 26 and 28 January 2001, reaching minimum ranges from the surface of 4.8 and 3.1 km respectively. Coordinated, high resolution observations of the asteroid surface were obtained by the NEAR Laser Rangefinder and the Multispectral Imager, including the highest resolution coordinated observations of ponded deposits on Eros. We discuss the topography and morphology of a debris flow and a ponded deposit at 2.55 degrees S, 179 degrees W which reveal evidence for fluid-like motion of dry asteroidal regolith. A simple model of seismic agitation from impacts may account for aspects of regolith mobilization on Eros.
