The propagation of solar flare shock waves is discussed based on analytical solutions for blast waves propagating in a variable density medium with a ring magnetic field. When the flare shock waves propagate into interplanetary space, the configuration of the magnetic field appears to be of the U type and occurs mainly in part of the shock wave head. The flare shock waves must have higher energy than the magnetic cutoff energy. The ring-closed region of the magnetic field offers a stronger constraint to the propagation of the shock wave.
