Expressions for the wave refractive index N are obtained which impose less stringent restrictions than those in the case of quasi-electrostatic theory. Moreover, these expressions are shown to be, in most cases, close to corresponding previously derived quasi-electrostatic expressions. It is shown that the quasi-electrostatic approximation may be insufficient for wave normal angles theta close to which dN/d(theta) approaches infinity.
