The hydrodynamic instability of waves in the solar wind near planets and comets is examined theoretically. It is shown that this instability is caused by the nonuniformity of the velocity field, i.e., flow deceleration and shear. The increment of local instability is determined; the instability characteristics at points in front of and behind the body are analyzed; and the effect of viscosity is investigated.
