RECENT observations at 2,795 MHz with the NRAO interferometer1 and at 1,415 MHz with the Westerbork array2 have shown that a point radio source appeared in the field of the X-ray source Cyg X-1 some time between March 22 and April 28, 1971. On the basis of strong variability and close proximity, this radio source is identified with Cyg X-1 (refs. 1,2). Observations with the NRAO interferometer at 2,695 MHz have shown that the source appeared constant in flux from May 13 to July 10, 1971.
