The effect of pressure on the association of Mg 2+ , Ca 2+ and Na +
with SO 4 2- in seawater is estimated from partial molal volume data.
The results indicate that the concentration of the ion-pair MgSO 4 °
in seawater decreases with increasing pressure as expected, rather than
increasing as estimated by and (1970).
