A possible connection between increases in solar-wind velocity and solar active regions is investigated using IMP-6 data on solar-wind speed for a three-month period. The velocity of the shock front caused by interactions between solar-wind fluxes with different speeds is estimated, and it is shown that active regions play a substantial part in forming the sector structure of the interplanetary magnetic field. It is found that active regions are the sources of the high-speed solar wind in about 95% of the cases examined.
