An algebraic method for determining the time-optimal parameters of some passive attitude stabilization systems is developed on the assumption that the duration of transients can be determined from the degree of stability. The degree of stability is understood to mean the abcissa, taken with the opposite sign, of the utmost right-hand root of the characteristic equation linearized in the neighborhood of the steady state solution of the system of equations of motion. The degree of stability of the characteristic equation is optimized in three steps.
