The HST mission and images taken with the space telescope are reviewed emphasizing the quality of HST data as compared to ground data and data from the Wide Field Planetary Camera. Specific attention is given to the spherical aberration of HST images and the use of image processing to maximize the usefulness of the information characterized by high spatial frequency. Improvements to the HST are proposed to bring the telescope performance back to its original specifications including reimaging the optics, recoating the primary, and retrieving the entire telescope.
