The role of classical heat conduction in the energy balance of the Te domain of the transition region (105 - 106K) is explored. We consider variations in space and time of the Differntial Emission Measure (DEM) inferred from high cadence (10s) SUMER observations taken on May 17, 1998 as part of JOP72. In particular, we show that the gradient of the DEM in the observed region, irrespective of the spatial/temporal binning applied, is 3/2. We discuss the implications of this result.
