In this paper a review on the observation of photons from the GeV region up to >1PeV is given. At low energies very good data is available from satellite experiments and new even better data is presently being collected by GRO. At energies of about 1TeV the only source seen is the Crab. Beyond that no convincing evidence for photon sources has been put forward by recent experiments. The detection of very high energy photons therefore remains a challenge for new arrays and telescopes coming into operation now.
