The interpretation of the recently observed anomalies in beta decays in terms of a heavy neutrino νS can be reconciled with the simplest explanation of the observed solar neutrino deficit in terms of resonant neutrino conversion, as well as with all observations in particle and nuclear physics, cosmology and astrophysics. In this talk I review the related challenges, how models cope with them, and their implications. I stress that improved laboratory searches for νe --> ντ conversion can test the consistency of all these models.
