Recent work (Lisse et al., 2009) has detected amorphous silica and SiO
gas around 12-m.y.-old HD172555, at the right age to form rocky planets.
Here we discuss the location, lifetime, and source of the material,
using inferences gleaned from HD172555 and three new silica systems.
