Large altitude-range EISCAT observations in the UHF and initial VHF operations are used for aeronomical purposes. The equation of frictional coupling between the ions and the neutrals is solved in order to estimate the neutral temperature and atomic oxygen density. In quiet periods, the determined temperature is in quite good agreement with the model, while during frictional heating periods it is not determined and the model temperature is used consequently. The atomic oxygen densities are determined in all cases with fairly good agreement with the CIRA-86 model. The determined hydrogen densities are found to be larger than the model ones by factors ranging from 2 to 5. A unique case is shown for which observed hydrogen densities are more than 20 times larger than those of the model.
