The structure and function of the IRAS spacecraft are described. The two main interfaces of the structural configuration and their interconnection are addressed, and the thermal control is discussed. The onboard computer and data storage system are described in terms of their components and their function. The onboard software is addressed, mentioning the RAM and ROM routines. The goals, components, and functioning of the attitude control subsystem are discussed, and the implemented attitude control program modes are given. An algorithm that safeguards the proper attitude is described. The uplink and downlink components of the communications system, and their interconnection are addressed, and the power supply units are considered in terms of their capacity, components, and functioning.
