Spectra of the two Seyfert-1 galaxies Mkn 1040, Mkn 1044 have been obtained with typical resolutions of 4 Å, 9 Å in the spectral range 4000-7000 Å. Photometric observations of Mkn 1040 have also been performed in the spectral range 0.35-3.61 μ. Tracings of the narrow and broad lines show in both galaxies complex profiles which can be interpreted either in terms of gas mixed with dust flowing radially with respect to the nucleus or in terms of moving dusty cloudlets. The narrow line region of Mkn 1040 shows Seyfert-2 characteristics as in most Seyfert-1 galaxies. Conversely this situation is not verified in Mkn 1044. The infrared energy distribution of Mkn 1040 suggests the presence of a high quantity of hot dust in the galaxy.
