H I absorption has been observed toward the W 3 complex of H II regions and the molecular cloud. Absorption profiles are presented for eleven H II components and one probable extragalactic source within the field. The H I opacity reveals pronounced variations in the direction of W 3 A, B, and C plus D. For these regions, N (H I) correlates well with the UV luminosity of the associated H II component. This correlation agrees with theories of H2 dissociation via stellar radiation.
