The possibility that MHD oscillations in a density enhancement are the cause of observed short period radio pulsations from the solar coronal plasma is investigated analytically and compared with data. Fast waves in the highly structured coronal atmosphere are suggested to become trapped in high density regions that serve as waveguides. A propagation cut-off is a feature of magnetoacoustic waves in a dense loop, and leads to symmetrical oscillations only at short wavelengths, which could account for the short period of the pulsations. It is shown that an impulsive source like a flare can power the periodic disturbance, generating oscillations similar to oceanographic Pekeris modes, seismological Love waves, and fiber optics dielectric waves.
