It is currently often believed that the relative age of Orion population stars can be inferred from their emission line strengths, in the sense that stars with the strongest emission lines are the furthest from the zero age main sequence (ZAMS). The present investigation is concerned with the truth of this belief. An age related term called 'Youth' is defined, and attention is given to a simple linear model involving an evaluation of 'Youth' as a predictor of hydrogen emission line equivalent widths. Relations between 'Youth' and other parameters are also considered. It is concluded that there is no useful correlation between observed emission line strengths and theoretically derived relative ages in the considered objects.
