The possibility that whistlers propagating at a small angle to the magnetic field may become trapped in magnetospheric ducts is investigated. It is shown that such trapping in ducts formed under the effect of the local densification or rarefaction of plasma depends only insignificantly on electron temperature and anisotropy if the electron plasma frequency (Pi) is close to the electron gyrofrequency (Omega). Whistler trapping in ducts formed under the effect of the local heating of electrons is most efficient when the whistler frequency is close to 0.4 Omega. In addition, it is shown that the analogous trapping of whistlers in ducts formed under the effect of local densification or rarefaction in the case of Pi less than Omega depends significantly on electron temperature even when the whistler frequency is close to Pi.
