The possibility of a source free electromagnetic field coexisting with matter in the form of a viscous fluid and streaming neutrinos is considered. The universe is assumed to be LRS Bianchi type-V, which is a simple generalization of the Robertson-Walker metric with negative curvature. It is found that, in the absence of the streaming neutrinos, the viscosity is incompatible with such a universe. The electromagnetic field is necessarily null, and its effect consists in contributing a nonvanishing shear in the fluid flow. The field equations are discussed, along with some of their physical consequences. A number of exact solutions are derived, and their physical and kinematical features are discussed.
