The Enriched Xenon Observatory (EXO) is a neutrinoless double beta decay search experiment. As an intermediate step to a larger detector, the Collaboration is presently commissioning a 200-kg prototype (EXO-200) at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) in Carlsbad, New Mexico. The prototype consists of a time projection chamber (TPC) filled with 200 kg of liquid Xenon enriched to 80% in 136Xe. Here we are going to give a brief overview of the double beta decay process, report on the status of the experiment and discuss our plans and perspectives regarding the anticipated multi-tonne detector.
