Sun: General, Stars: Evolution
Scientific paper
The birth, present, and future of our star, the Sun, are described. Newborn stars are wrapped in layers of gases; later they form a protoplanetary disk. Middle-aged stars like the Sun shine steadily and brightly. In about five billion years, the Sun will bloat up into a red giant star. Later it will shed its outer layers, which will become a planetary nebula, and the leftover core will become a white dwarf star.
