An algorithm for determining optical thickness and effective particle radius of water clouds has been developed. It uses reflected solar radiation by cloud layer at visible, near-infrared. With this algorithm, we characterized global patterns for cloud physical parameters such as a ocean-land contrast and coastal area features. Moreover, through analyses in January, April, July and October in 1990, we have found local seasonal variabilities of the cloud optical thickness and the effective particle radius are connected to the cycles of ocean upwelling and precipitation
