Stability And Fragmentation Of Clusters, Scattering Of Atoms And Molecules
Scientific paper
Shell effects play important roles in the fragmentation of multiply charged metal clusters. They affect the competition between fission and evaporation near the critical size. It also determines the product size distribution of fission fragments. Due to shell effects, decay to energetically most favorite channel is observed when the parent cluster is relatively cold. In the case where parent clusters are hot, the product size distribution shows even-odd oscillation. The spheroid model qualitatively explains these phenomenon. .
