There exist closed universes with Λ0 that are ever-expanding, but which do not undergo inflation. It is shown, by means of explicit examples, that this non-inflationary behavior (i) is not a consequence of the fulfilment of the energy conditions, and therefore (ii) it cannot be avoided by relaxing the energy conditions. It is concluded that in addition to the closed universe with premature recollapse, there exists a set of ever-expanding closed universes with Λ0 which are excluded from the range of initial conditions that produce an inflationary scenario.
