The motion of free test particles in the flat Friedmann and de Sitter space times is investigated. It is found that the world lines of the particles converge toward the geodesic congruence normal to the homogeneous 3-spaces of these models. The relevance of this result to the physical significance of recent proofs of the so-called 'no-hair theorem' is pointed out.
