Giant HII regions host high concentrations of massive stars, which inject energy into the ambient ISM via fast stellar winds and supernova ejecta, heating the ISM to X-ray-emitting temperatures. The Carina Nebula, being the nearest and most unobscured giant HII region in our Galaxy, allows us to study the stellar energy feedback in great detail. ROSAT observations have shown bright diffuse X-ray emission from the Carina Nebula. To determine the physical conditions and possible abundance anomaly in the hot gas in the Carina Nebula, we request XMM-Newton observations of four pointings. The new and archival XMM-Newton observations of the Carina will be used to study the origin of hot gas and its relationship with massive stars and star formation in a giant HII region.
