We propose to make a detailed X-ray spectroscopic study of the radio quiet QSO Kaz 102, which has been found to have a power-law spectrum with a photon index of about 1.0 with our ASCA observation. This object was observed to have variability on time scales of about 2--3 years and its photon index also varied over years, from 2.2 during the ROSAT All Sky Survey to about 1,0 during the Einstein/ASCA observations. From our ASCA spectra, we couldn't discriminate whether the apparently unusual hard spectrum was caused by warm absorber, Compton reflection, or a simple featureless power-law continuum. With the proposed XMM-Newton observation. we would be able to investigate the cause and physical mechanism of this hard spectrum and its variability.
