We propose X-ray imaging of two galaxy pairs, in their early stage of interaction with preferred edge-on view, yet showing evidence of strong collision, to examine how the various ISM components respond to the collision in the ``interaction zone'' between the galaxy disks. Our multiwavelength data suggest 10^7 and >10^6~K X-ray emitting gas in the interaction zones in UGC12914/15 and NGC6670 respectively, and XMM-Newton should detect the extended hot ISM and characterize their properties to help constrain the collision parameters. We can then better address what role of the hot ISM might play during the interaction, how the different ISM phases interplay, and what are the feedbacks of starburst to the ISM.
