We propose to use XMM to confirm the identification of a distant cluster candidate that was selected from the ACBAR Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (SZ) Blind Cluster Survey. This candidate shows a strong SZ decrement, at a level consistent with a 1.1e15 solar mass cluster, in a deep ACBAR observation. Deep r and i band imaging has uncovered an obvious over density of faint galaxies that was not visible on the UKST survey plates. If confirmed in the X-ray band, this will be the first cluster to have been discovered via its SZ signal alone (rather than via its optical, radio or X-ray signatures). XMM will be the first satellite to make this important discovery.
