The emission from the Local Hot Bubble (LHB) has been observed to have a gradient in its ROSAT color. Given the large effective area and resolution of the EPIC, we propose to measure more precisely the strength of this gradient within the Galactic plane. Determining the nature of this variation has application beyond studies of the interstellar medium; since the O VII and O VIII lines are expected to dominate the spectrum of the Galactic halo, the same lines are the most promising means of detecting the hot extragalactic medium, and the LHB emission should be dominated by these lines, it is essential to understand the variation in the LHB emission spectrum in order to study the Galactic halo and (possibly) detect the extragalactic medium.
