Stellar Atmospheres, Sphericity Effects

Scientific paper

The differences between equations for spherically symmetric and plane parallel static model atmospheres are summarized. Results of comparison of spherically symmetric and plane parallel static model atmospheres of hot stars are discussed for sample models of O stars, B stars, central stars of planetary nebulae, and white dwarfs. In general, the temperature of spherically symmetric models is lower in the outer layers, the continuum flux in the peak of intensity is lower, and lower members of line series are deeper.
