Ground based high resolution observations of SNR 0540-69 have unveiled in H Alpha the presence of a prominent, symmetrical, "spiral like" feature centered on the young pulsar PSR 0540- 69. This feature is unique amongst the very few pulsars detected in the optical domain and does not appear to be present in the equally deep OIII and SII images of the SNR. We propose to use the resolving power of the PC on HST to map this puzzling feature in order to clarify its geometry and possibly to understand its nature as a link between the SNR and the young pulsar at its center.
