The broadband X-ray response of BeppoSAX has proved to be a powerful tool by which to study the properties of galactic black hole systems. Indeed, the first light exposure of BeppoSAX, in 1996 June, was of Cygnus X-1 during its rare soft state. Since then BeppoSAX has gone on to observe Cygnus X-1 in its more normal hard state, as well as the outbursts from a number of transient systems. In addition, the sensitivity of the imaging instruments has allowed the properties of some of these systems including XTE J0421+560 to be studied in quiescence.
