The suspension system for the VIRGO mirrors, the superattenuator, is
characterized by low frequency high Q normal modes. The residual motion
of the mirror associated to them must be reduced to lock the
interferometer. A multidimensional active control system (the inertial
damping) has been successfully implemented. The results are presented.
