The goal of the Maya project is the numerical simulation of binary black hole collisions, and to calculate the gravitational radiation produced in a such an event. Two of the tools believed to be necessary to attain this goal are (1) mesh refinement to reach the required resolution, and (2) excision of the singularities. I present the current status of these two components of the Maya project.
