It is well known that the flat rotation curves (FRC) in spiral galaxies reveal the presence of a dark component with a mass contribution which is approximatively ten times larger that the contribution of the visible matter (baryonic matter). The simplest dark matter models for galaxies should in principle explain both the missing matter and the FRC. A clue for the nature of the dark matter in galaxies arises from a simple Newtonian analysis of the RC which indicates that the energy density associated with such a matter should decrease as ~ 1/r2 for the "tangential" velocity of the gas and stars to be constant ...
