We mention some results concerning the asymptotic behaviour of spatially homogeneous spacetimes of Bianchi type IX close to the singularity. The matter content is assumed to be an orthogonal perfect fluid with linear equation of state and the cosmological constant is assumed to be zero. One result is the fact that except for the Taub type vacuum solutions, which are known not to yield curvature blow up, a curvature invariant is unbounded in the incomplete directions of inextendible causal geodesies. The second result is that in the variables of Wainwright and Hsu, generic solutions of Bianchi type IX converge to an attractor consisting of the closure of the vacuum type II orbits, assuming that the perfect fluid is not stiff. Finally, for stiff fluids, the solutions converge to a point in the variables of Wainwright and Hsu. These statements confirm the expectation that the behaviour is oscillatory and that the matter content should become unimportant in the general case, and that the behaviour should be convergent in the stiff fluid case.
