The so called gravitomagnetic clock effect (gclock effect) is in fact a consequence of the geometrical properties of space time around rotating sources of gravity. In the case of circular orbits the flatness of the bidimensional surface hosting the world line of the clock allows for a geometric and quite general treatment at least for axisymmetric metrics. The general features of the effect have been derived this way. The corresponding exact formulae can be used to obtain the weak field approximation valid in the solar system environment. The size of the effect in some special cases endorses the hope to experimentally reveal the gravitational effects of the angular momentum of the source.
