The mechanism for the appearance of sometimes very low-intensity emissions from triatomic hydrogen in the upper atmosphere is examined. The total concentrations of the ionized molecules H3(+) and H2(+) are estimated. It is shown that the emissions arise after the ionization of molecular hydrogen by energetic (30 eV) electrons in the upper atmosphere.
