Existing data concerning the dependence of various parameters of the
D-region on solar activity are examined. It is noted in particular that
the absence of a marked dependence of the winter anomaly on solar
activity is a strong argument against the formation of this anomaly as a
result of the transfer of NO molecules from high to middle latitudes.
